Amity Libby (formerly Beane) of flower and jane grew up on a flower farm in Maine. She pursued an undergraduate degree in fine art, and a masters of science in education, and spent 12 years teaching and traveling. After spending three years developing educational curriculum for Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Amity moved to western Maine, sharing a mountain home with her husband, daughter, and as many flowers as they can grow. From the remote location, thanks to an educational platform called Teachable, Amity is able to share her unique online educational offerings in constructing paper flowers. “Botanical minimalism, or the least you can do to trick the eye, coupled with realism in the sense of color and an understanding of how branches and stems curve toward the light (or not) - and how much damage light and insects can do to a plant that’s not in balanced soil - that’s my lifetime of agricultural pursuits! I’m obsessive with the flowers of New England, interpreting the natural world as a completely messy yet logical designer, and I bring with me teacher skills that make online learning not quite so deadly boring.”
